We’re Hunting Down Leaks!
It’s Fix-a-Leak Week!!
Are you ready to chase down leaks? Did you know that household leaks waste more than 1 trillion gallons of water annually nationwide? That is a lot of wasted water and a lot of wasted money, so each year, across the nation, water providers and the EPA encourage everyone to hunt down the drips during Fix a Leak Week.
How do you know if you have a leak?
- Take a peak at your water usage during a colder month, such as January or February. For CRW customers this might even been on your most recent bill. If a family of four is using more than 12,000 gallons per month, there’s a leak that needs to be hunted down!
- Check your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter changes at all, you may have a leak.
- Toilet leaks might be one of the easiest to find. Simply add a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. Wait 15 minutes, then check the bowl. If you see any color in the bowl you have a leak. (Be sure to flush immediately after the you checked the tank to avoid staining.)
- Examine faucet gaskets and pipe fittings for any water on the outside of the pipe to check for surface leaks.
